Poo-Great And Best Tamil Film

Poo stars Srikanth, whom Sasi introduced in Roja Kootam, and Parvati, who has acted in the successful Malayalam Notebook and Flash. This is Sasi's fourth film after Sollamale, Roja Kootam and Dishyum and his first film set in a village. The story is based on a short story 'Veyilodu Poi' by Tamilselvan.

This simple chronicle of love will now be awarded the Best Film award by Makkal TV in a grand ceremony on Bhogi Day, January 12th, on the premises of Chettinad Vidyashram School, Raja Annamalaipuram. The awards have been conceptualized with the aim of encouraging Tamil culture and trends that are fast disappearing due to a lack of recognition from the public.

Makkal TV has announced these awards to winners in 32 categories such as Best Daily, Best Writer, Best Citizen, Best Drama, Best Short Film, Best Sportsperson, etc.

Dr. Anbumani Ramdass, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, will be presenting the awards. Since the organizers wanted to retain the suspense and thrill of ceremony, they chose not to reveal the names of all the winners. But an exception was made for the Best Film awardee and it was announced that Poo will receive the Best Film award for its realistic portrayal of rural life in the interior of Tamil Nadu.

The climax of the movie Poo is said to be of the similar kind as Uyir and Parthiban Kanavu which is women centric and the hero losses weightage in the climax. The director approched many hero’s with this story but due to the climax no one signed the movie. Srikanth who had just sorted the issues in his personal life agreed to do the movie.

Endhiran in Vellore

Several thousand people gathered in large numbers at a private engineering college where Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai were shooting for 'Endhiran', a movie being directed by Shankar and produced by Sun Pictures.

The much-awaited film being made at a huge cost, 'Endhiran' went to floors a couple of months ago. The movie was shot in Peru and adjoining countries besides a few portions in Goa.

At Vellore on Sunday, scenes involving a cultural festival in the college were shot. Rajinikanth appeared as scientist and Aishwarya Rai as college student. Security was tight in and around the place and only students and faculty of the college with identity cards were allowed inside the premises. General public were blocked a few meters away by the police.

It may be recalled that Shankar and Rajinikanth had shot at the same place for their previous venture Sivaji.

About Rajnikanth's dilema to enter politics

Upto 1995 everything was normal and rajni concentrated only on films, but on 100 day celebration function of "Badshah" film rajnikanth criticized then Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha for the bomb blast near director Mani Rathnam house.

This made AIADMK chief and its followers to be against Rajni. When the state election came on 1996, Ms.Jayalalitha formed an alliance with Congress party, opposing this late Sri.G.K.Moopanar and present CM Sri.Karunandihi formed a new front and they seeked the support of Rajni.

Super star gave his "Voice" and the alliance got a bumper victory to form the government. After that he raised voice for the Parliament election but people rejected his voice, so kept mum about politics thereafter. Eventhough he is not speaking about his active politics, his fans are eagerly awaiting his entry.

Actor Vijayakanth started a new political party and became MLA through 2006 election. Actor and President of Nadigar Sangam Sarathkumar also started a new political party and aiming for the Chief Minister post on 2011.

These actions, made rajni fans to frustrate and they are in dilemma whether to support any political party or to wait for the action of his "Thalaivar".

Recently in a film function, Rajnikanth talked about "Seth Bridge" and requested the CM of Tamilnadu to talk with north indian leaders to settle the matter, and CM returned the ball towards rajni and asked him to talk with north indian "God Men".

In this situation, a tamil magazine made a cover story that Rajnikanth is going to start a political party soon !. And also wrote that preliminary steps have been already started, by quoting that Rajnikanth even decided party's Flag.

Kanika and Jayaram pair for Anthikkad's film

Popular Tamil actress Kanika has been roped into don the central character opposite Jayaram for an untitled Malayalam film by ace director Sathyan Anthikkad. She is currently shooting in Mollywood's much-anticipated historical magnum opus Pazhassi Raja, directed by Hariharan starring superstar Mammootty in the lead, in which she plays a queen named Kaitheri Makkom.

Produced by M.M. Hamza under the banner of Kala Sangham, this untitled film is about a Christian family residing in Kuttanad area. Sathyan Anthikkad has already completed the script and is expected to begin shooting by the end of January. Also in the cast are Mamukoya, Innocent, Nedumudi Venu, K.P.A.C. Lalitha and others.

Debuting in Tamil cinema with Five Star (2002) directed by Susi Ganesh and produced by ace director Mani Ratnam, Kanika, the former Miss Madurai (1999) and runner-up in Miss Chennai (2001), has already acted in all South Indian languages, making her a truly southern spice actress. Her notable films are Ajith starrer Varalaru, Cheran's Autograph and its Telugu version Naa Autograph, actor Madhavan's Aethiree and Kannada film Sye.

Kanika's sweet voice enabled her entry into playback singing and dubbing. She sang the theme song of her debut movie Five Star and dubbed for actress Genelia in Sachein, for Sada in Anniyan and for Shreya in Sivaji: The Boss. She recently married
Shyam Radhakrishnan, an US-based software engineer
and brother of yesteryear heroine Jayashree Chandrasekar.

Dhanush's Speech

After the super hits Polladhavan and Yaaradi Nee Mohini, his Padikathavan is releasing this Pongal. The film is said to be a fun-laced masala comedy caper directed by Suraaj. Now, Dhanush’s Padikathavan has been pitted against Vijay’s Villu, leading to a classic confrontation at the box-office.

Sitting on the balcony of his 10th floor apartment that overlooks the sea, Dhanush says, “I have come a long way from my early days of struggle. I’ve tasted success and failure. All I want to do now is good films that work at the box-office. Padikathavan has all the essential ingredients to make it a racy entertainer.” The actor is confident that the film will work as it has been tailor-made for him.

Says Dhanush, “Suraaj gave me three story lines before I picked Padikathavan as it suits my on-screen image. I play the role of Rocky, a loafer who is a major embarrassment to his family. He is a 10th standard failure while the other members of his family are well placed. The film is about his struggle to come up in life.” Dhanush agrees that there is nothing new in the storyline, and feels it is the way a director packages the movie that gives the film its novelty. On the element of comedy in the film, he says, “The first half is funny and in the second half, Vivek, as Assault Arumugham, takes over and makes it a riot. There is no crass humour in the film.”

In Tamil cinema, each star has a particular image and it is good to work within these confines, feels the star. About the songs in Padikathavan, Dhanush says, “Mani Sharma’s music is peppy and youthful. Today, dappankuthu songs are an added attraction. Do you know that today, upmarket night clubs in Chennai play more dappankuthu Kollywood numbers than English songs?”

Dhanush confesses that his skinny, ordinary looks have become his calling card at the box-office. “When I was in school, I used to go to Elliot’s beach with my friends and I found that no girl gave me a second glance. I used to be unhappy about my looks, which are today my biggest strength.” Thanks to his early films and brother, Selvaraghavan, an image was created for him. In Padikathavan, when Tamannaah, the heroine, gives a dirty smirk at the hero, there is a punch line which has already become popular with the youth — “Enna mathiri pasangale partha pidikathu. Parka parka thaan pidikkum.”

As the star himself says, “Selva created my screen image. Without his films I would still be roaming the streets of Chennai. I owe everything to him. He is my closest buddy.” About trying to take over his father-in-law, Rajini’s mantle, Dhanush says, “Long before I married Aishwarya, I was a big fan of Rajini sir and climbed on his huge cut-outs on the opening day of his films to put vibhuti on it. Today, as Rajini’s son-in-law, there are many restrictions on me. Although I try my best not to copy his style of acting, at times , I am influenced.
The star concludes, “Life is beautiful with Aishwarya and son, Yatra, by my side.”

The makers have made one thing clear, this thing is a full fledged commercial, so you know what to expect. But, they have not said that this is a no brainer. It will be a full length entertainer where we get to see two Silambarasan’s in different halves of the movie in completely different appearances, one a cool dude and the other a typical traditional priest from Kumbakonam.

Silambattam is the debut directorial venture of popular cameraman Saravanan. He has admitted that the story is not entirely new to Kollywood, but the script has its share of freshness and that will be the advantage of the movie, besides its cast which, one has to admit is quite good for a directorial debut. Apart from Silambarasan, there is Sana Khan paired with the priest and Sneha paired with the more stylish Silambarasan.

Sneha will be on screen for the first time after Pandi where she had a bit uncharacteristically scorched screens, it will be interesting to watch if she continues in the same vein here too. Kishore is the bad man while Santhanam and Karunas have teamed up in the laughs department. The touch of experience comes in the form of Prabhu (who has now settled very neatly into the character mode) and the veteran Nedumudi Venu who will appear as Silambarasan’s grandfather. The director has made a special mention of Sana Khan’s rural girl role which he says has come out in a life like manner.

Well, we are coming to the highlight part that we are already familiar with, the music. The Yuvan-Silambarasan team gets it right most of the time and they seem to have done it this time too, having managed to get Ilaiyaraja to lend his voice for one song. The ‘Thamizhnattile’ song is already quite a rage among the youth which augurs well for the movie and with the nimble footsteps of Silambarsan (remember the ‘Dandanaka’ song from Kaalai), they must make the movie stronger..

Camera has been handled by Veyil fame Mathi and so we can expect quality in that department. Despite all these details being revealed about the movie: the Silambarasan two pronged act and the two lead ladies, we are no closer to knowing the plot or the genre of the movie, which is a well guarded secret. All that is being said is that it will be an entertainer from start to finish. We will find out soon at the theaters anyway.
